Действие романа разворачивается вокруг фармацевтической деятельности в 60-х годах 20 века и рассказывает нам историю частной жизни одной сильной и целеустремленной женщины, которая ради своих принципов пойдет до конца и не запятнает свою совесть.
Что тут говорить? Производственный роман от мастера Артура Хейли знакомит нас с внутренней кухней..лекарств. Казалось бы, что может быть надежнее таблеток? Ведь среднестатистический обыватель думает, что всё досконально проверяется, исследуется прежде, чем выйти на рынок к потребителю. Но жажда наживы, славы, халатности и даже, банально, нехватки ресурсов в корне может поменять дело.
Яркий пример, который привел Хейли в книге - это талидомид. Лекарство, которое прописывалось беременным женщинам, чтобы успокоить симптомы недомогания. Это бомба замедленного действия. Детки, после употребления мамами данного препарата в течение всей беременности, рождались с огромными дефектами. Кто-то без ручек, кто-то без ушек, кто-то без конечностей, а кто-то умер незадолго после родов. Это страшно!

И что еще больше повергает в шок, так это то, что лекарство реально существовало. На тот момент, по некоторым данным, пострадало около 12000 детишек!!! Есть много фотографий и статей на этот счет! Сейчас талидомид используется для лечения проказы. Я в шоке. Лучше сдохнуть от боли, чем травить себя таблетками во время беременности. Малыш ни в чем не виноват.
Вернемся к книге. Она о борьбе за человеческие жизни. Ну и о лекарствах, конечно. Написано, как всегда, подробно и напряженно. Что касается главной героини и ее мужа, то вот тут мне не понравилось уж слишком идеальное их описание. Прям такие ангелочки! Так не бывает. Даже несмотря на то, что в обращении к читателям автор намекает нам, что Селия – это прототип его жены, и он, видимо, хотел показать самые светлые и благородные чувства к своей супруге, но меня это выдергивало из реальных проблем в фармакологии. Ладно, мои придирки.
Объективных минусов не искала, это ж Хейли. Его нужно читать.
Книгу советую всем без исключения, хотя она мне понравилась меньше, чем три другие мной прочитанные. 7/10.

I found this book by just browsing the kindle store and decided to take a chance on it based on the reviews. It was worth it! If you consider yourself an armchair detective and true crime lover this is a book for you. It makes me think that I could go out and solve a murder in my town...but I don't suggest it. A later post than usual today because I’ve only just got home from work 😂 I finished fangirl the @acovenofreaders book of the month on Wednesday night! It’s the first book by Rainbow Rowell that I’ve read and I honestly loved it, it was exactly what I needed to read right now. Cath and Levi are the sweetest humans 🥰 Really looking forward to reading Carry On in January! . . Mini review with some spoilers: . . 1) I liked that Cath’s growth as an individual as well as in her relationship with Levi was there and she came so far but it was all still believable, she didn’t suddenly become completely removed from her naturally socially anxious self. 2) The relationship between the twins was written beautifully. I loved the ending where Cath asserts her independence by not immediately dropping her new friend to room with her sister. It’s a 180 from the start of the book and the way it happens is from a place of love and growth not because one of them is fighting blindly to find an identity separate from the other. 3) Levi. I loved that he wasn’t a ‘perfect’ person, he approached everything with the best intentions but still made a few little mistakes. There’s no doubt the character is a great guy who is full of nothing but patience and respect when it comes to Cath but he was still a fully developed character not just ‘the nice guy’ and that made me very happy. 4) The Simon Snow interjections worked really well and still served the story. Но жажда наживы, славы, халатности и даже, банально, нехватки ресурсов в корне может поменять дело. Яркий пример, который привел Хейли в книге - это талидомид. Лекарство, которое прописывалось беременным женщинам, чтобы успокоить симптомы недомогания. Это бомба замедленного действия. Детки, после употребления мамами данного препарата в течение всей беременности, рождались с огромными дефектами. Кто-то без ручек, кто-то без ушек, кто-то без конечностей, а кто-то умер незадолго после родов. Это страшно! . И что еще больше повергает в шок, так это то, что лекарство реально существовало. На тот момент, по некоторым данным, пострадало около 12000 детишек!!! Есть много фотографий и статей на этот счет! Сейчас талидомид используется для лечения проказы. Я в шоке. Лучше сдохнуть от боли, чем травить себя таблетками во время беременности. Малыш ни в чем не виноват. Вернемся к книге. Она о борьбе за человеческие жизни. Ну и о лекарствах, конечно. Написано, как всегда, подробно и напряженно. Что касается главной героини и ее мужа, то вот тут мне не понравилось уж слишком идеальное их описание. Прям такие ангелочки! Так не бывает. Даже несмотря на то, что в обращении к читателям автор намекает нам, что Селия – это прототип его жены, и он, видимо, хотел показать самые светлые и благородные чувства к своей супруге, но меня это выдергивало из реальных проблем в фармакологии. Ладно, мои придирки. Объективных минусов не искала, это ж Хейли. Его нужно читать. Книгу советую всем без исключения, хотя она мне понравилась меньше, чем три другие мной прочитанные. 7/10. . #артурхейли
